Official Tumblr App for Mac Released
Since today we have an official Tumblr “app” on OS X. There’s currently a bug where keyboard shortcuts like ⌘C and ⌘V are not working. Also TextExpander expansion doesn’t, but they’ll surely fix that in an update. Other than that, the Tumblr app comes with a Sharing Extension.
With this app Tumblr embraces all Apple platforms fully, with a wrapped WebKit browser. That’s fan-tas-tic.
UPDATE:
I have used, or tried to use, the Tumblr app now for a couple of days. My experience: this is not representable for Tumblr.
To use the Sharing Extension on Yosemite, you have to login again. Let me say this again: you have to login twice. One time for the Tumblr app, one time again to use the Sharing Extension.
I assume that Tumblr wanted to ship a product earlier, and the only way to do that was to get it out the door early, so they made the decision to make the Tumblr app a wrapped browser, and only the Sharing Extension is written in native, Objective-C, code.
Using the app to do the most basic “Tumblr”-y things is awkward and bad. Again, I think this is mainly due to the fact that the app is very limited and only a browser.
